At St. George's Camberwell, we believe that through effective teaching of History and Geography we can foster, in our pupils, secure knowledge and awareness of the world around us. We want to inspire children’s curiosity and fascination about our world and its people so that they can become informed and active citizens. In both subjects, enquiry is key and children are given opportunities to ask questions and debate viewpoints in order to deepen understanding.
We teach three topics a year, which have the scope to encompass both Geography and History skills within them. We believe that in doing this, we are able to delve deeply into a topic, equipping our pupils with deep and secure subject knowledge of the curriculum.
Along side classroom teaching, we also regularly take our pupils on excursions, linked to the topics taught, to reinforce classroom teaching, expand their worldview and create memorable experiences.
