Phonics

Phonics

Below are the Early Learning Goals needed to be achieved by your child at the end of Reception:

At St Georges, we teach phonics for 20-30 minutes a day based on the Read Write Inc Phonics Scheme, which is a comprehensive, synthetic phonics programme that teaches children how to read.

During the Autumn Term, Reception children are focusing on single sounds in the alphabet to form simple words e.g. 'dad' and using their phonics to hear the initial sounds in words e.g. 'd-d-dad'

By Spring Term, most children in Reception should be working at either Ditties or Red group.
