Spring 1 2024

This half term we are exploring the text Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens (adapted by Usbourne)

In Spring 1, we are focussing on:

1) Using a variety of noun phrases to describe 

2) Describing action using relative clauses

3) Using the subjuntive mood when writing formally

4) Using question tags to show uncertainty

5) Using the subjunctive to give advice

6) Using parenthesis for extra information

7) Paragraphing ideas effectively

8) Embedding speech into narrative

 

 

Year 6 End of Year Expectations: 

For children to be working at the expected standard for Year 6, they will be able to consistently and independently do the following:

Write for a range of audiences (knowing the difference between formal and informal language)

Write for a range of purposes (to persuade, inform, entertain)

Choose language for effect - use a wide range of synonyms for words and not repeat oneself

Integrate dialogue into narratives - create a good balance between speech and story telling

Ensure verb consistency so that it grammatically makes sense to read

Use a range of devices to build cohesion in writing, such as using conjunctions and adverbials of time and place, within and across paragraphs

Effectively use the subjunctive mood, modal verbs and active/passive voice

Use a range of punctuation accurately, including inverted commas, brackets, dashes, commas, apostrophes and hyphens

Consistent accuracy of Y5/6 statutory spelling list 

Maintain legibility in joined handwriting at speed
