Headteacher Welcome
'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me'
(Philippians 4:13)
A very warm welcome to St George’s Church of England Primary School. I am immensely proud and honoured to now lead our school as Headteacher. St George’s is a vibrant, ambitious mainstream primary school where every child is known by name, valued as an individual, and inspired to reach their full potential.
2026 marks a momentous milestone for St George’s as we celebrate 200 years of providing high-quality education and care to our local community. We are proud stewards of a rich heritage spanning two centuries. Earlier this year, our school family came together for a landmark service at Southwark Cathedral to commemorate our 200th anniversary - a powerful reflection of commitment to helping generations of children flourish.
At the heart of our success is our excellent teaching team and deeply dedicated staff. Highly skilled, passionate, and committed to every child's personal and academic growth, our team sets high standards while nurturing a love of learning. We ensure all pupils are continually challenged to excel and expand their thinking, while tailored, high-quality support is seamlessly provided so that every child succeeds, whatever their starting point. Whether a child excels in academic subjects, thrives in creative arts or sports, or requires bespoke provision, our staff champion their progress every step of the way.
Our ethos is anchored by our core Christian values: Sustainability, Transformation, Generosity, Perseverance, and Stewardship. These values foster a warm, inclusive, and joyful environment where children feel safe, happy, and confident. In our recent Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) report, a pupil captured our welcoming culture by describing St George’s as:
"A family with open arms."
Our SIAMs inspection also praised how our broad curriculum and expert teaching empower every learner to flourish:
"The rich and inclusive curriculum has a transformative impact on pupils. It enables them to grow and nourish their gifts and talents, whatever their starting points."
Learning at St George’s extends far beyond traditional lessons. Taking advantage of our central London location, regular visits to world-class museums, galleries, and historic landmarks give our pupils rich, first-hand experiences. From fencing and residential trips to our pupil-led Eco-Warriors, outdoor bee garden, and long-established charitable link with Trinity College, Cambridge, we broaden horizons and spark lifelong ambition. This commitment to excellence was reflected in our last Ofsted inspection, where St George’s was judged ‘Outstanding’ in Personal Development and ‘Good’ overall.
We welcome families of all faiths, worldviews, and backgrounds, believing that a strong partnership between home, school, and our dedicated team is vital to every child’s flourishing.
If you are considering St George’s as the school for your child, the best way to experience our energy, ambition, and warmth is to see us in action. We would be delighted to organise a personal tour for you to explore our dynamic classrooms, meet our staff and children, and discover why St George’s is the ideal choice for your family.
Please contact our school office by calling, 020 7703 4772, or emailing, office@stgps.org.uk, to arrange your visit. We look forward to welcoming you and showing you all that our school community has to offer.
Yours sincerely,
Ms. Alexandra Hales
