English Summer 1

Summer 1 - 2025

In Year 3 English sessions, we take the time to focus on and master key skills for writing from the Year 3 curriculum. Each day, your child will practise a key skill and then complete a piece of writing where the skill should be embedded. This half term we will be looking at The Tin Forest and

Our first text, The Tin Forest by Helen Ward is a poetic fable about an old man who transforms a desolate junkyard into a vibrant, natural forest using recycled materials and his imaginationThe story highlights themes of environmentalism, recycling, and the power of hope and creativity to overcome bleakness.

Our second text, The Last Garden by Rachel Ip and Anneli Bray is a picture book about a girl who tends to a garden in a war-torn cityAs the city is evacuated due to conflict, the girl must leave her garden, but the seeds from the garden scatter and grow throughout the city, symbolizing hope for the future. The story is inspired by true events and war gardens around the world, exploring themes of war, migration, and the resilience of nature.
