Maths Spring Term 2

Maths Spring Term 2

Number

This half-term term we will be focusing on consolidating subitising and counting numbers to 5.

We will be using Hungarian Die Frames to represent numbers 6 and 7

We will be using the language of idenifying 'more' 'equal to' and 'fewer than' of objects and using it in our everyday life!

We will be starting from any number and counting onwards - all the way to the 100's!

Space, Shape and Measure

We will be learning about 2D shapes and exploring 3D shapes, identifying similarities and differences.

We will also be developing our spatial awareness by making dens indoors and outdoors and using structured and unstructured materials!

We will be continue to consolidate and make ABC repeating patterns (with 3 different objects)

We will continue to use measuring objects in class (heigh, length, capacity and weight)

We will also be using positioning language (inside the box, outside the box, on top of)

Subitising - means to recognise when you are able to look at a group of objects and realise how many there are without counting e.g. holding up one finger is the same as 1, seeing two buttons on the screen means there is 2.

Comparing - identifying which numbers are bigger and smaller (looking at what makes them different e.g. what is different between two buttons and three buttons?)

Composition - learning the different ways that numbers are made up of smaller numbers e.g. 2 and 1 makes 3! 3 is made from 1 and 1 and 1.

We follow a Maths Mastery programme at St Georges, which allows all children to understand and become secure in basic concepts before we move into more complex ideas.

Maths mastery involves lots of repetition and games to make maths and learning more fun and exciting!

We use numberblocks a lot in our learning - Children are encouraged to watch this at home!

Find Numberblocks on bcciplayer.
